Senator Kevin Cramer, a U.S. Senator representing North Dakota, expressed criticism of the ongoing government shutdown in a series of posts on his official Twitter account between November 7 and 8, 2025.

On November 7, Cramer wrote, "We need to end the Schumer Shutdown not only because it's a distraction and a disaster, but it's the basic function of government. Democrats’ demand to extend Biden's COVID bonuses another year is ludicrous." Later that day, he added, "Our law enforcement officers, service members, air traffic controllers have suffered enough from democrats using them as leverage. The Schumer Shutdown is the longest, cruelest shutdown in American history. It’s time for Democrats to put an end to their obstructionist pipe dreams"

The following day on November 8, Cramer posted another message: "I could not agree more!!! Let’s do it!!!"

Government shutdowns occur when Congress fails to pass funding legislation for federal agencies. In past shutdowns—including the one referenced by Senator Cramer—essential services such as law enforcement and air traffic control have continued operating but with employees working without pay until appropriations are restored. Political disputes over spending priorities or policy riders often lead to these impasses.

Senator Kevin Cramer's comments reflect broader debates about government funding and disagreements between Congressional Republicans and Democrats over pandemic-related spending measures.
