Minot Area Chamber of Commerce: March speakers at start up Minot focus on wine and art

G

Minot Area Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on April 6.

The monthly Start Up Minot business showcase/ networking event in March featured two entrepreneurs with unique backgrounds.

Katie Dotson, previously Abrahamson, was born and raised in Minot and was the first speaker at the event. She attended Minot State University and earned

a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis in Graphic Design, and a Bachelor of Arts with an emphasis in Photography, a minor in Marketing, and an Honors concentration. She currently works as a Marketing Director on the Minot Air Force Base and outside of her daily job creates freelance commissions,

screen prints, and apparel – her creations are more often than not based around pop culture, references to the Midwest, cats, and other things she enjoys! She shared with the crowd at the Carnegie Center that she values her opportunity to work on her “side” entrepreneur gig

when she has time and doesn’t let the potential stress of this being a full-time job bog her down.

Eric Hansen, owner and operator of Urban Winery in downtown Minot, has more than 35 years of experience as a commercial/industrial painter. Now, he can say

that he has returned to his first love, painting on canvas, and can add vintner (winemaker) to his list of accomplishments. Hansen shared with the 30+ attendees that he considers Urban Winery his “rocking chair” job, as something that keeps himself productive after a long career in commercial painting. Hansen is a transplant to the state, moving here from the Minneapolis area in 2012.

To view their presentations go to the Start Up Minot Facebook page (like and follow it!) and pull up the video from March 10.

We hope to see you in person at the Carnegie Center on April 14, from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. for our next free public event. Scheduled speakers include Kayla Goetz, who recently opened an Edward Jones Financial Office in Town and Country Center, and Becky Doizaki, owner of The Truffle Shuffle that just opened at the Dakota Square Mall food court.

Join us for free coffee and donuts, great presentations and a chance to network with fellow business-minded individuals.
