Amtrak has announced the completion of more than $30 million in upgrades at five train stations across North Dakota, aimed at improving accessibility and safety for travelers. The work brings the stations into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

“The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is still delivering for North Dakota,” said a spokesperson. “It’s great to see Amtrak stations across the state receive some much-needed upgrades. These funds at the Devils Lake, Fargo, Rugby, Stanley, and Williston stations will go a long way increasing safety and accessibility for travelers.”

The investment included $10.4 million at the Rugby station for a 750-foot boarding platform with a snowmelt system and accessible paths connecting the station to parking areas. Upgrades also featured sloped walkways, safety barriers, LED lighting, detectable warning systems, new signage, and an updated interior.

At Williston station, $10 million was allocated for a 700-foot boarding platform with similar improvements such as a snowmelt system, new parking area, accessible paths, sloped walkways, railings, egress features, LED lighting, detectable warning systems, and signage. Construction is expected to finish next month.

Devils Lake station received $4.5 million for a new 300-foot boarding platform with a snowmelt system and accessible paths to the building. The platform includes energy-efficient LED lighting for full coverage, detectable warning systems, and new signage.

Fargo station saw $4.5 million invested in a 645-foot boarding platform featuring sloped walkways and accessible paths. Additional enhancements include railings, egress gates, LED lighting, detectable warning systems, new signage, and interior renovations.

Stanley station was awarded $400,000 for an accessible path between the building and parking area as well as repairs to detectable warning systems on the platform. The project also included updated signage and refreshed interiors.
