Rolette County’s Amateur Radio Program or more commonly known as HAM Radio!

Rolette County Emergency Management has been working on raising funds since about 2018, for Rolette County’s Amateur Radio Program or more commonly known as HAM Radio! It would be used for the sole purpose, of an Emergency Back-Up Communications for the county. If all other communication sources failed, we wouldn’t have a way to relay/deploy resources for any kind of emergency. Ham radio is relevant today, not only in our county but throughout the entire state of ND, because it is a two-way communication that can endure earthquakes, hurricanes, and most any other disasters. Ham radio operators can make their wireless signal reach far beyond the distance of cell phones, family radios, or even CB radios because of the higher transmitting power allowed to them. With HAM Radio we can still communicate to the rest of the world, in the event of a high-profile emergency! The project cost is approximately between sixty-five hundred to seventy-five hundred dollars. We do have a licensed HAM Radio operator (Russ Lund) that will do monthly tests and relay any emergency communications needed.

Rolette County Emergency Management would like to thank the Rolla Community Endowment Fund of North Dakota, North Central Electric Trust Inc., Midco Foundation and the Rolette County Sheriff’s Office for their generous contributions in making the purchase and installation of the Rolette County Emergency Amateur Radio possible!!

How many licensed HAM Radio operators are in ND: Approx. 1477

We have four (5) licensed HAM Radio operators in Rolette County
