The new retaining wall near the Minot Police Department is in its final stages of construction.
Crews are wrapping up the installation of the wall’s large concrete panels, which are welded into place after being lowered into position by a large crane.
“The panels sit on a steel beam that’s welded to the pile,” City Engineer Lance Meyer said. “Then the panels are welded onto the piles. They should be done putting the panels into place this week.”
The wall is made up of 89 separate concrete panels of various sizes. The final few panels are on site and are awaiting installation.
After the panels are set, Meyer said crews will stain and color the panels. Then the remainder of a new water main will be installed under the parking lot by the Police Department, and the entire parking lot will be graded and repaved.
“The last things to do include installing the parking lot lighting and fencing, as well as the new stairs that will go on the wall to provide access to the Minot Municipal Auditorium parking lot,” Meyer said.
Work is also nearly completed on a smaller retaining wall in the southwest corner of the parking lot, behind the police station. The wall is being built with smaller concrete blocks that look like Legos, and will be stained to match the large wall when finished.
Work on the project, which began in April 2022, is expected to be completed by mid-July.
