The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has announced a contract worth $23,816,251 for work on the Garrison Dam near Riverdale, North Dakota. The project involves dredging and placing riprap protection to support the spillway at the dam.

This initiative is part of the Garrison Dam Spillway Approach Rehabilitation Project. It aims to enhance infrastructure and is scheduled for completion by April 28, 2028.

Garrison Dam, constructed in 1953, is one of six projects on the mainstem of the upper Missouri River. It boasts the largest reservoir storage capacity among USACE projects nationwide. Together with dams on tributaries, these projects help reduce downstream flooding risks along both the Missouri and Mississippi rivers.

The management of this mainstem system balances several functions: hydropower generation, water supply, water quality maintenance, irrigation support, fish and wildlife conservation efforts, navigation facilitation, and recreational opportunities.
