The U.S. Department of Transportation has allocated $364,401 to the North Dakota Public Service Commission through the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Administration’s (PHMSA) Fiscal Year 2025 State Base Pipeline Safety Grants Program.
According to the department, PHMSA’s State Pipeline Safety Base grant program reimburses up to 80 percent of operating costs for state programs responsible for inspecting transmission and distribution pipelines within their jurisdictions. These state pipeline safety programs are tasked with inspecting pipelines and enforcing both federal and state regulations related to pipeline safety.
The grants help fund personnel, equipment, and activities necessary for inspections and enforcement in areas where these facilities are located. The initiative is designed to support partnerships between PHMSA and states by providing resources needed for oversight of pipeline infrastructure.
