The U.S. Department of War has awarded a contract worth $19,817,205 to United Crane and Excavation for runway repairs at Grand Forks Air Force Base in North Dakota. The project addresses damage caused by cracking and weathering that has affected the base's runway over time. The contract covers materials, planning, travel, labor, and equipment needed for the repairs. Construction is scheduled to be completed by September 20, 2026.
“A good runway is the beating heart of any Air Force Base, critical for current and future aircraft operations,” said Senator Kevin Cramer. “I heard the concerns of our base leaders and worked hard to get this project authorized in the National Defense Authorization Act, knowing how important it will be to the really important future missions of Grand Forks Air Force Base.”
Senator Cramer used his position on the Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC) to support funding for these repairs. He secured planning and design funds in the 2025 National Defense Authorization Act to start maintenance on the runway and held meetings with Air Force officials about its condition and plans for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions at Grand Forks.
